Hello! I am so excited to have your child in my class this year! I have been married to my amazing husband, Tristan, for six years. I have two children: a two and a half year-old boy, named Zayne, and a twelve year-old step-daughter, named Lahna. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Central Florida, but realized that my passion was really teaching. I later got my certification in teaching and this will be my fifth year training young minds! I strongly believe in parental involvement to ensure a child’s success in school. This means that I will communicate on a regular basis, regarding your child’s progress throughout the year. In the same manner, I expect that you will be just as interested in your child’s education. To ensure that your child is successful in third grade, please check your child’s homework on a daily basis, check their grades on ProgressBook regularly, and stay up-to-date with reading e-mails, my blog posts, and any other important communication that is sent home. I love having parent volunteers in our class! Please reach out to me if you are interested in volunteering for any event or for help in the classroom. Remember, you cannot volunteer in our school, eat lunch with your child, or attend any school functions or trips if you have not registered to be an ADDitions volunteer for OCPS. Please visit https://volunteer.ocps.net to register and/or update your information. My plan is to communicate through this website, phone calls, or e-mails to keep you updated on everything going on in the classroom. I know that your support at home with any behavior or work-related problems will make a difference in your child’s growth. Third grade is a very important time where we want to ensure your child is successful and ready to take the statewide tests toward the end of the year. The only way this will happen is if we work together! I am part of your “village” now. If you need to contact me, the best means of communication is my school e-mail ([email protected]) or a note which your child should give me first thing in the morning. I will respond to your messages as soon as possible. I believe that a student is responsible for his/her own success. With this in mind, I am dedicated to helping them reach their fullest potential. In the words of Dr. Seuss, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is You-er than You.” Each child is different and has a different set of needs. I will do whatever possible to ensure your child’s success this school year. Sincerely, Mrs. Hiers |
